Creation

Monday, September 26th, 2011   What We Learned

I recently watched a National Geographic special on this fish that glows under water. It flashes it’s light extremely fast so it confuses its prey. They recently discovered this fish just a few years ago. It was crazy cool. It made me think of how an awesome job God did when he created this fish. How he took something as simple a fish and made an underwater-strobe-light-fish. How clever and ingenious is His creation! If we take time to look around, we constantly see a glimpse of God’s imagination. It makes me realize that our Creator is creative.

He would have a Master’s Degree in Art and Music. And I’m sure when we look at our children, we are reminded of that again. That only a creative Creator could have created our little ones. The Bible says:

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

Not only is our Creator creative, but His Creation is creative too. We all have different talents and gifts, but we all have an imagination because we were made in God’s image. We may feel at times that we aren’t creative, but that’s not true. God has a special gift for all of us and has prepared for us ALL to do good works. He’s got it all planned out for each and every one of us. Our bottom line this week is, “You were created so you can be creative.”

See you Sunday!

Hands and Feet

Monday, September 19th, 2011   What We Learned

We are finishing up our month talking about knowledge. Knowledge is great. The more we know, the better. As we have learned, Jesus was very knowledgeable. But he didn’t keep it all to himself. He shared it with everyone.

Knowledge can move from our head to our hands and feet. We can go out and tell others about Jesus. We can share the knowledge that he has given us through his Word. We need to share with our kids how important it is to tell other about their Creator. Have them invite friends to church, Sports Camp, and let them share their faith. As a church, we are the hands and feet. Make sure we show our kids, Sunday mornings shouldn’t be kept just for our church friends and members; we need to share the knowledge we learn every Sunday with others.

Check out the story we will be covering this week. It comes from Luke 4:14-30.

See you Sunday.

In Your Face

Monday, September 12th, 2011   What We Learned

All month we’ve been focusing on knowledge: discovering something new so you an be better at whatever you do. Jesus had a lot of knowledge. He knew the scripture. So when he was tempted by Satan, he was able to fight back with the knowledge of God’s Word.

The kids will hear the story about Jesus being tempted and you can check it out too. It comes from Luke 4:1-13. Satan kept trying to tempt Jesus. He offered wealth, popularity, and wanted him to even test his heavenly father just for fun. But each time Jesus was tempted, he basically threw scripture back in Satan’s face. I’m not big on conflict, and I don’t like seeing people argue or fight, but I would have loved to be around for this argument. I probably would have snapped my fingers after Jesus told Satan off and said, “Yeah, what he said!”

But Jesus was only able to fight and argue back because he knew scripture. And if we know God’s word, we can fight back too. We can show our little girls that beauty isn’t about being fake, but inner beauty is what really matters. We can teach our boys that being a man is about fighting for our family, not walking away.

You may feel a little overwhelmed right now because you may feel like memorizing the entire Bible is quite the task. Well, it is. And rest assured I’m not asking you to do that. But we can start off small and help our kids memorize their memory verse each month. Check this verse out. It’s my favorite that I’ve used over the years.

I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Phillipians 4:13

See you Sunday!
